LOCALITY VOLUNTEER PROJECT!

Rational

It is understood that organisations such as Charities and Social Enterprises are functioning on limited funds and that the recruitment of volunteers to take on specific roles in such establishments is vital to the sustained delivery of services.

This is particularly important for areas of deprivation such as Openshaw where the Manchester Settlement is based, which supports the local community by delivering in-house health and well-being interventions but is also utilised by local community groups and private organisations to deliver community sessions.

Volunteering is beneficial both to the individual and the organisation and thus, by creating a local environment where volunteers and organisational needs are met, understanding the challenges and barriers to volunteering and creating volunteer branding which is recognised within the community; we hope to establish Openshaw and neighbouring areas as areas of good practice for volunteering.

Therefore, this project worked in partnership with the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE) to deliver a neighbourhood-based pilot project in Openshaw.
